A Touch of Irish

Oak + Violet restaurant's modern fare contrasts with the Irish roots of the Park James hotel

Indulge in colorful luscious libations from comfy couches in the oak tree-lined courtyard at the Park James hotel, which takes inspiration from Menlo Park co-founder Dennis “James” Oliver, who emigrated from Menlough in County Galway, Ireland, in 1854. Oak + Violet restaurant is where Palermo-born chef Simona Oliveri delivers a new benchmark for crispy Brussels sprouts, melty olive- oil poached salmon, and perfectly pan-seared bone-in filet atop fennel mash. The hotel’s ultramodern luxe-appointed rooms (stocked with drinks including 10-year-old WhistlePig whiskey) feature plush bedding that coaxes restful sleep. Tasty breakfasts include housemade yogurt and some of the best croissants this side of Europe. A William Butler Yeats poem inspires the entrance: “No Strangers Here, Only New Friends.” Warm hospitality—Irish-style—abounds. 1400 El Camino Real, 650.304.3880
